I’ve come across many explanations for this video but none have really grabbed the essence of what this about. The video shows Gambino picking up, what appears to be, a past love. She sits in the back as to not give the visual of them being together, more a friend thing. As she goes in the store she picks up his favorite chips, because she knows him and they continue on the drive. Childish lyrics express that she’s moved on from him, but that he’s not ready to really let go of her and his feelings for her. He then gets in the backseat with her, they have a lil fun, then she becomes the driver. This imagery is saying that he’s letting her be in control of what she knows. He’s spilled his heart to her and now she has to make the final choice. The lyrics then say, “Are we datin’, are we fuckin’, are we best friends, are we somethin’, in btwn that…” Then the vid cuts out.
