While Ms. Minaj seems to be at the top of the femcee game, she has competition and they are coming, fast. Within the past few months I’ve come across some talented young women that not only can captivate us with their looks, but with the power of their words as well.
When I first listened to Knoxie-Ty‘s The Academy I was blown away. She IS Hip Hop. No gimmicks, no glitz or glam, just raw hip-hop, it was a beautiful thing. Throughout her entire mixtape she gives listeners her heart through a vary of instrumentals that truly display her versatility as an MC.
The 22 year old from Jersey tells YSA, “I started rapping when I was 12, I used to write poetry and being that I come from a musical background, I decided to turn my poetry into rhymes. I needed a way to release my feelings and express myself artistically..
The academy mixtape was my first solo release. Right now I’m working on a new mixtape and an EP. The mixtape is titled “Candy for the masses” and the EP is going to be called “The Art of Rhyme” with production by 2Mindz . I’m releasing both of these next year.
As far as what I wish to accomplish with my music, I want to create a new lane in hip hop by creating a mixture of hip hop and different genres, and honestly just to help listeners by giving something they can relate to by touching of everyday situations. Especially those that may feel like outcasts or just different.. To promote and spread awareness and positivity, and to show/ highlight the harsh realities of life.. Through music.”
